My Entrepreneur Story
How does one become an entrepreneur? Experts say do what you love and you will never work a day in your life if you turn that love into a business. Others say look for gaps in the market and supply customers needs and your business will be a success. However, every Entrepreneur or business has a different beginning and their own story.
While I learned to sew at an early age, I began business years later and recently became more enthused about being my own boss, when an opportunity presented itself. I wanted some accessories to match this pink top you see in the first photograph and simply could not find what I was looking for at least, not in the color I wanted. I then thought to myself, can I create what I want? I began to look at what materials I had and how I could use them. Then it dawned on me that maybe I could crochet a necklace and earrings set to match my outfit. I had not crocheted for a long time and even so, I had only made home decor pieces, accessories was a whole new ball game.
The set took about just under two weeks but it was finished in time for Emancipation Celebrations. You can see the necklace in the first photo. Since then the rest is history as they say. I now make broaches, rings and different types of earnings and accessories in the line of jewelry.
PHONE CASE
They say necessity is the mother of all inventions. Some months after discovering I had Jewelry making skills, I bought a new cell phone and searched the length and breadth of the island and could not find a case that fitted the phone. One store attendant informed me that the phone was a new model and so cases were not readily available. I decided to crochet a case and would you know it came out beautifully. Feel free to visit my Photography website http://imagefingerprint.org/2016/05/do-it-yourself-diy-crochet-phone-case/ to have a look at the case.
Someone saw me with that first case and asked me to make one for them and just like that, I got my first customer. Crossover bags, key covers, tablet cases and even car ornaments are now added to my list of crochet products.
Sewing and crocheting offer endless possibilities and the sky is the limit.
